Feb 02 - Groundhog Day

Wednesday, February 2, 1972 - Page 33
LOCATION: Newport Beach, California

(2:33 AM 2/3/72)
Read another couple of stories in "Tomorrow, the Stars" -- so I've finished the book. Layed in the sun for an hour, and all but finished organizing my newspaper collection. I must be making progress -- I've thrown out two overflowing boxes of trash in the past few days. Today's Groundhog's day!

"THE GROUNDHOG'S BEEN OUT."
"OH!... DID HE SEE HIS SHADOW?"
"NO, HE SAW HIS CONGRESSMAN."
"WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?"
"INCREASED BENEFITS FOR 65-YEAR-OLD GROUNDHOGS."

[Groundhogs typically live less than 14 years... Attached to this page is a four-panel Sally Bananas cartoon by Charles Barsotti dated 2-21-1972 © L.A. Times Syndicate.]
