Rained. Woke up at 9:00 when mom tapped on the window to get me to open the front door for her. She'd driven Jain to work but had no key to get in. Went back to sleep -- awoke at 12:00 or 1:30 and mom made us some turkey sandwiches.

Then Will, Me & Mom drove to the earthquake site, then to Cliff House's Musée Mechanique, then to Jain's warehouse to pick her up (4:30). Drove around alot from there. Drove home after that and ate some food. Then we (Me, Mom, Jain, Will & Jim, who rode his bike to work) drove to the Poseidon Adventure (out at 9:00) then to Roark & Carol's (left at 11:00), then home by 1:30. Drove to Sausalito & Jack in the Box. Played chess with Will till 2:00. Went to sleep 2:30.
Saturday, June 24, 1972 - Page 176 LOCATION:Newport Beach, California 10:30 AM Woke up today at 9:00 when Grandma Dot called. Woke up again at 10:00 when Dennis Heakin called. Stayed awake to write in this -- my immediate course of action is unclear at the moment. Mom is working today.
1:30 PM I called Chunk at about a quarter to 11:00 to get my check. He's got it. I took a bath, and dad arrived. He left with Chunk who came by also whilst I was taking a bath (great timing). They came back with my money, Chunk & Winnie said s'long, and left (they were in the Ford Pickup -- he always drives that now. He was lucky to get it). I wanted to have the knowledge of driving with a clutch before leaving, so Dad and I went out in the Audi and I learned, sort of -- at least I now have a crude understanding of the principle -- I drove to Jack in the Box and Dad bought some food (Just for him -- I wasn't hungry -- I am now though) -- then he drove back home. He ate, I gave him the new Mad magazine, he shook my hand and left -- I'll be gone for a couple of months maybe. He's gonna send me my boots that he bought at Aeronurotic -- they haven't come yet. --
So I know how to play poker, and drive a stick. Swell. I'm all set. Still, I'd rather do it [travel away from home] surreptitiously like last time. I'm getting too much attention. --
8:30 PM Drove to The Peddler's to buy Mom & Me food. Then we played a couple games of chess, she won one, I won the other. Jain [my mother's sister] called Mom -- she said Jim said I looked exactly like Robert Redford. How about that? That's what I thought too. WATCHED "THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING" TONIGHT.

Wednesday, April 19, 1972 - Page 110 LOCATION:Newport Beach, California 11:02:54 PM Got a letter today from Tom Hildebrand of Bethlehem, SD. He sent 23 photographs, 3 of them of Matt & Me in South Dakota one hundred days ago, the rest of Europe. Some of the pictures are on page 10 1/2 (me in Bethlehem) [see January 10] and 10 3/4 (Europe from a year ago) [see below].
It was a sunny day, and I considered going out to tan my hide, but there were some clouds. The clouds moved in and burst, dropping a steady shower for about a half hour. During that time, dad appeared to give me $5, and mom $20, then he and me went to eat at Jack in the Box, and the Audi overheated. The fan wasn't working so he drove to the Volkswagen place, and they'll fix it for him tomorrow -- till then, it'll stay cool if he doesn't idle it. We came home, ate, and he left at about 1:30 or 2:00. I did some more organizing, wrote a letter to Tom and sent $15.00 for the Bible they're selling. The $15 was in the form of a check from Mom's bank.
The Apollo 16 (Sweet Sixteen) is orbiting the moon, and they're landing tomorrow. I watched a lot of T.V. today (Adam 12, Mystery Movie: McMillan & Wife, and Night Gallery). Got a lot of dishes dirty. Laboriously brought mom's desk into the living room from the cabaña via the porch since the hall was too narrow, or the desk was too wide. Tis now 11:16:15 P.M. Tha's all.
Tuesday, March 14, 1972 - Page 74 LOCATION: Newport Beach, California (1:00 AM - 3/15/1972) Got up today at 11:30 again so I didn't get to school. Dad stayed home today. I washed the dishes. Dad & I went to take some more of his stuff over to his apartment (Victoria Manor -- # 3), on the way we stopped at Jack in the Box to eat. Came home at around 6:00 and mom had dinner ready (steak, potatoes, asparagus) so I ate again. Dad's staying overnight at his apartment. I took one of the planks he had in his room and put up a shelf in my room. "West Side Story" was on tonight (first half -- second is tomorrow). It is now 1:05 A.M. The end, again
