Nov 10 - Putting in some overtime

Friday, November 10, 1972 - Page 315
LOCATION: Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Anaheim
6:30 PM
Got to sleep last nite at 10:30, exceptionally early for me, and woke up this morning naturally at 7:30. I took a necessary bath and went to work, arriving at 10:45. I worked mainly on painting walls, but I spent some time repairing a curtain rod Linda had broken, and driving the Ivanhoe Van to the Mobil station for a recharging. Completely finished painting two rooms, 218 & 219. Quit work at 4:15 -- I put in some over time.

The RTD came early enough to get me to the OCTD bus stop soon enough to catch the right OCTD bus that took me to Dover & Coast Hwy. Got home at 6:00. I got up to 580 in The Magus. I'll have it finished soon. Mark is no longer working at the Ivanhoe -- he already has two jobs & is going to college, so he decided to quit a few weeks ago. The new guy, Ken, was shown around today -- he'll be working tomorrow. L&M are going to Big Bear tomorrow. I ain't got no more to say. --

Nov 03 - Cal State Fullerton textbooks**

Friday, November 3, 1972 - Page 308
LOCATION: Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Anaheim

(2:00 PM 11/5/1972)
Got to work at 9:30. Painted till about 3:00 or 3:30. Finished painting all of the first room, with Linda & Mary the detail work on the next two rooms was nearly completed. Mark came by with the books (receipt above), and left real soon. He didn't want to work, which is fine because there was no plastering to be done. The books, in order of number of pages, are "Man" by Richard Harrison & William Montagna (that was the one with the attractively nude gal who came after the lemurs, monkeys, and gorillas. But it was a new edition. Everything else was the same about the book, except that picture of the girl. It was replaced with the picture of a dumpy looking broad with no appeal at all. A bitter disappointment. I protest), "The Age of the Dinosaurs" by Björn Kurtén, "Evolution" by Jay Savage, and "The History of Life" by A. Lee McAlester (both 152 pages long.)

There was a fifth book, a technical work about the mechanics of evolution but the $15.00 I gave Mark wouldn't have covered it and he wasn't sure I wanted it. I got about $1.25 back in change. I left after he left -- I was only supposed to work for 4 hours Friday but I waited for him, and finished a room in the process. I got off the Santa Ana bound RTD and got off at Town & Country, going to the Eye Catcher to get my glasses fixed again -- I had put them in my pocket while painting and a screw in the frame had broken, and the right lens had fallen out again. I got a case from him after he fixed them, and got the RTD to Santa Ana, then got the 4:30 OCTD to The Arches, getting home at 5:15 (got to the Arches at 5:15 -- takes me a half hour to get home from there) --

Oct 25 - Another new maid named Linda

Wednesday, October 25, 1972 - Page 299
LOCATION: Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Anaheim

(12:50:00 AM 10/26/1972 Thursday)
Got in to work at 9:40 as I did yesterday (Left on 8:00 bus) -- It has been foggy in the morning for the past several days but this morning was the foggiest. Afternoons are hot & clear tho. Painted all day. A new maid was hired and she's been working since Monday. Her name's Linda too but she's plump & dumpy but has a reasonable personality. Left work at 6:00 and got to Newport & Coast at 7:15 where I told Mom to pick me up, and she did. Chunk was home to eat dinner -- he & Joe'd gone paddling again. We had dinner and watched T.V. He ate & left.

I got a letter from CRM Books. About a month ago I sent a coupon from Psych. Today for Anthropology Today. They sent the coupon back -- the price had changed. So I sent a check and will mail it tomorrow. That's all.

Oct 12 - Something Wicked Comes This Way

Thursday, October 12, 1972 - Page 286
LOCATION: Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Anaheim

COLUMBUS DAY

11:42:24 PM
Spent the entire day (9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.) painting rooms. Am now working on 201, 202, & 203. We've gotta have 'em finished by Friday to stay on schedule so it's up to me to have them painted. Nobody was there but me, him, her and (from 4 to 5:30) Angela. Was the maid's day off. Linda starts tomorrow or Monday or something.

I got mom to pick me up at 7:30. Watched T.V. and took a bath (I was bespeckled with paint). Finished reading all the stories in Star Trek 7 (I've been reading it in transit and during lunch break -- by the way, didn't bother to take the break today. I never eat anyway).

Gotta find another book -- only one I could dig up was a Bradbury (Something Wicked This Way Comes). I hope it's not his typical lousy writing. That's all for now.
Dust-jacket art by Gray Foy from 1962 first edition

Bradbury wrote the screenplay for the 1983 movie
Theatrical release poster by David Grove (wikipedia info)
TOMORROW: 1st Black President: James Earl Jones
