Got up and on the bus at 9:00 A.M. My "Southern California Rapid Transit District 10-ride interurban ticket good for travel between any two points where one-way adult fare is 46 cents, from 'Greyhound Lines - West,' Santa Ana, Calif, Dec 4-1972, Void 30 days after date stamped (for Individual use Only) 051280, Form 10-46-T" has only 2 rides left and they'll pro'ly be used up tomorrow.

Before I "surrender" it, I wanted to mention the diversity of the patterns of punches used by the bus operators -- in eight rides, only one pattern was repeated, that was this design: [half moon]. Other designs on the punched card are: [sketches of various examples], and finally, that old standby, O. So much for my thesis.

I got to work by 10:45 and worked procrastinatingly on the new rooms, 110, 111, 112. L&M bought an X-mas tree for the lobby & I set it up for them. I left at 3:00. It was a very cold day, in the hi 40's or low 50's. San Fran got an inch of snow a couple days ago. My coat's in the cleaners till Tuesday, so I had to wear a T-shirt, a sweat shirt, my gym shirt and my long-sleeved brown turtle neck shirt. I was warm enough.

Got home at 5:00, and finished Star Trek 8, all 170 pages. Now I'm faced with the pro'lem of finding a new book to read. Mom went to play bridge as usual. I think I'll get to sleep early today. G'night.

Oh! I almost forgot -- They're tromping on the moon again. The LEM touched down today at about noon, our time. They'll be there for three days. --

Got the 8:00 A.M. bus, got to work by 9:45. Spent most of the day painting, finishing 230, commencing 231. Ate at Hamburger House. I started reading Star Trek 8 (on page 32). The Computer convention's still going on. I got the 6:30 OCTD with Dave the bus driver. Also featured were a bright young senior of Harbor High who had gone to the computer convention (computers & self hypnosis were his hobby), and a nice girl who worked at a cafeteria near or in South Coast Plaza -- she gave Dave a cup of coffee and he paid her fare. He's a helluva nice guy.

Mom picked me up at 7:25. Got home & watched the delayed Apollo 17 launch at 9:30 P.M. It was supposed to go at 7:53 (Pacific time) but a computer got pissed off and din't let them go. I took a bath before the launch. Being a night launch it was very beauteous. At 10:00 there was a special on Cortez' conquest of the Aztecs. Was very well done. It began raining late that night. I finally got to sleep around 2:30 A.M.

Woke up at 9:30 & got the 10:00 bus. Rained hard from morning to about 2 or 3 in the afternoon, then it stopped, getting very windy, and the wind cleared away the clouds. I worked on the rooms (229, 230) and started to paint them. Got off work at 3:45, got the RTD at 4:15, and was home at 6:15. I bought a 10 ride pass that morning. Got off the OCTD to go to Sav-on to buy 2 batteries for the transistor radio I keep at the motel, a Mad magazine, and Star Trek #8, the new book I'll read after I finish the book on dinosaurs.

Watched T.V. -- Mom was gone to play bridge. I watched "I Dream of Genie," "Stand Up & Cheer," "Laugh-In," a special on the next 30 years of space flight inspired by the Apollo XVII flight on the 6th, a half hour of a Peter Fonda movie "The Hired Hand," and "The New Bill Cosby Show." Chunk called -- said he thinks he found the pro'lem [with my motorcycle] but needs a $12.00 tool to fix it. Mike has one (it's to unscrew bolts) but his brother had borrowed it and din't have it. So Chunk's going to buy one cause he needed it anyway.

Barbara Eden of "I Dream of Jeannie" -- this rare photo features a clear view of her actual belly button which was strictly forbidden by censors on her NBC TV show. The original sitcom aired from September 1965 to May 1970, so in 1972 I must have watched a syndicated rerun. (wiki info)
